This past Tuesday, Spider-Man: Homecoming director Jon Watt’s follow-up Spider-Man: Far From Home swung into a movie theater near you. So far the movie has been snagging all the money at the box-office and so - teamed with the super-success of Marvel’s recent Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame - another spin around the web seems to be a sure thing, right? Yep, it turns out that long-time Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal agrees and is "sure" a Spider-Man 3 with Tom Holland is a lock.
Specifically, Amy Pascal reveals this.
"You know, I don’t think that we’re ready to tell anybody yet. But, yes, of course, there are so many stories that you can tell about Peter Parker and Spider-Man. I think the multi-verse and the Spider-Verse has opened up unlimited possibilities for us. I think that the great thing about what Stan [Lee] and Steve [Ditko] did, is that they are characters that can be reinterpreted. It’s 1962, it’s a long time for something to remain fresh, and yet it’s been able to. I think that’s because just like all of the artists who did all of the various spectacular, amazing, ultimate, everything has been able to reinterpret these kinds of classical characters. We’re able to do that, too."
As far as a possible third entry in this new iteration of the classic web-slinger goes, there has been a seemingly endless series of rumors about just who will be joining Tom Holland the next time around. One of my personal favorites has been Deadpool but we’ll just have to wait and see about that one. Other rumors that make a bit more sense include Venom, Green Goblin, and Doctor Octopus. Let alone all the team-ups that star Tom Holland has been wishing for openly, such as Spider-Man Into the Spiderverse’s Miles Morales joining the party, and (true story) Spider-Man vs Dinosaurs.
One of the more appropriate mash-ups that Tom Holland (and the world in general) would love to see in a future Spider-Man motion picture would include teaming up past Spider-Mans with Holland’s new take on the classic character. This means all of us are hoping to see Holland share the screen with Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movies and Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker from director Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man flicks as soon as possible. Whether or not a Holland/ Maguire/Garfield hybrid flick is in the works remains to be seen, but that said, there’s not a thing wrong with all of us hoping and praying it is every night before we tuck ourselves into bed.
In the meantime, remember that Spider-Man: Far From Home is currently playing in a jam-packed theater near you. It’s directed by Jon Watts (Clown, Cop Car) and stars Tom Holland, Samuel L. Jackson, Zendaya, Cobie Smulders, Jon Favreau, J. B. Smoove, Jacob Batalon, Martin Starr, Marisa Tomei, and Jake Gyllenhaal. Amy Pascal produced Far From Home along with Kevin Feige and the screenplay was written by Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna based on the comics by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.
