Chelsea Clinton was honored at the Children’s Defense Fund’s Beat the Odds gala at the Pierre hotel on Monday.
Clinton thanked founder and president emerita Marian Wright Edelman for being a role model to her mother, Hillary.
“I don’t remember a time in my life when my mother didn’t talk about her as the single greatest teacher and inspiration,” Chelsea said.
“To Kill a Mockingbird” star La Tanya Richardson Jackson presented Clinton with the award, and also auctioned off two tickets and backstage passes to the Broadway hit for $20,000 to go toward the organization.
